In the evening, at the end of the day, we turn off the computer, and it can turn on by itself at night or the next day without any reason. What is the cause of such a self-activation of the computer whether from complete shutdown, from hibernation or from sleep, and how to remedy it?
The best way to find out what wakes up our Windows computer is to use the command prompt (Start -> "cmd" in the search box):
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
We press Enter on the keyboard and the given command will return a list of devices that are able to wake up our computer from shutdown, as long as it is plugged in.
In my case, the command returned the result "Controller for Xbox One console (003)." And indeed, I have a game pad connected to the USB port on my computer, which sometimes wakes up my computer from hibernation. How to prevent such a device from waking up the computer?
To do this, we type the command in the console:
powercfg -devicedisablewake "Full name of specific device"
In my case, I typed the command:
powercfg -devicedisablewake "Controller for Xbox One (003)"
We press Enter and that's it. If we get a message that we don't have the ability to execute this command then we simply enable the "cmd" console with administrator rights. To do this, after typing "cmd" in the search box, we right-click on the Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
